Following the 22 February 2011 the hotel is undamaged but is inside the civil defence "Red Zone" so there is no public access to the hotel. Their website says they will resume service as soon as they have clearance from the authorities.
Novotel Christchurch Cathedral Square
The Novotel Christchurch Cathedral Square newly opened Jan 2010, is a purpose built 4.5 star hotel located in the very heart of Christchurch. This stylish and sophisticated hotel was constructed along side the heritage-listed, Warners Hotel building and features 193 spacious rooms and suites, including 33 charming accommodation rooms at the previous Warners Hotel residence.
Following the 22 February 2011 earthquake the hotel was closed temporarily. As at May 2011, their web site makes no mention of the hotel being closed.

Hotel Grand Chancellor
The Grand Chancellor building was severely damaged in the 22 February 2011 earthquake and has been closed since. Their management company has posted information on the status of the hotel. At the time of writing the future of the hotel was unknown.
On May 25 2011 the New Zealand Herald reported that a contract to demolish the Grand Chancellor has been given to Fletcher Construction. Demolition is expected to take about 10 months. It is planned to allow recovery of property abandonned by guests.
Hotel Grand Chancellor Christchurch is the tallest building in Christchurch providing rooms with sweeping views over the city and Canterbury plains to the distant snow capped Southern Alps.
